DDR SDRAM, meaning double-data-rate synchronous dynamic random access memory, is a class of memory integrated circuits used in computers. It achieves nearly twice the bandwidth of the preceding single data rate SDRAM
through double pumping, in transferring data on the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, without increasing the clock frequency.
List under this section is the first generation of DDR SDRAM, often
being called DDR 1, in contrary to a later version DDR 2. |

There are
several types of DDR Sdram, working with different generations of
motherboards. As a matter of the fact, classifications of DDR DRAM are
somewhat confusion. But in general, there are three major specifications
in terms of clock speed. They are DDR PC2100 Ram or DDR 266, running at
266mhz; DDR PC2700 Ram or DDR 333, running at 333mhz; and DDR PC3200 Ram
or DDR 400, running at 400mhz. The faster DDR Ram chips are backwards
compatible for most motherboards that supports DDR memory, i.e., PC3200
Ram or DDR 400 memory can be used to replace PC2700 Ram or DDR 333
memory. But some older mainboards only take DDR Ram sticks with specific
clock speeds. It is suggested to check the motherboard manual to
determine what type of DDR memory is needed to upgrade a system. PC2100
or DDR 266 and PC2700 or DDR 333 Ram modules have been phasing out
the market. DDR 400 or PC3200 Ram chips are still available from many
sources. Popular DDR Ram sizes are 1GB DDR Ram and 512mb DDR Ram. |
